When drivers had to revert to paper logs

Updated over a week ago

Drivers may need to revert to paper logs due to malfunction or connectivity issues. You can enter the log data into EROAD 360 manually to create an electronic log. Do this by using Add New Event, starting with the first new event of the day.

When building an electronic log from scratch, the events you add appear as proposed edits with yellow dots. Drivers will see Proposed Edit notifications and must accept the edits.

To create an electronic log from a paper log:

1. Go to Drivers > Driver Hours/ELD and open any log for the driver in question.

2. On the Driver Log View/Edit window, use the Date picker in the top left to go to the day that you are going to build.

If the driver did not use EROAD Drive at all on this date (from midnight to midnight), the log may show the driver as Off Duty all day or an uninterrupted continuation of the last recorded ELD status. If the driver went offline during the day, you see the correct electronic logging up to the point the driver went offline.

3. Select Add New Event.

4. Slide the graph bar to the start time of the first logged event for the day or enter the event time in the From field. Format must be: HH:MM AM/PM.

This could be when the driver started the day, when the driver went off duty at the end of a night shift, or later in the day after the driver went offline.

The following example assumes a driver starting the work day in the morning, so the first added event is On Duty at 8:00 a.m.

5. After selecting the time, fill in the required fields as shown by asterisks.

  • Status: On Duty for start of shift, or other status depending on shift schedule and when the driver went offline.

  • Location: 5 characters minimum

  • Annotation: 5 characters minimum

  • In addition, for a Driving status: Location End and Vehicle

The log displays a yellow Proposed Edit dot and an orange line for the new event. If you make a mistake, click the red X to delete the event and start again.

6. Select Add New Event to enter the next event in chronological order. That is, the time must be after the time of the previous event you entered.

7. Slide the graph bar or enter the start time, specify the status, and complete all required fields before selecting Save.

The following example shows the addition of a driving event after going on duty.

8. Continue adding new events with Add New Event until you complete this 24-hour period.

The following example shows the driver went off duty at the end of a shift at 5:00 p.m.
